Heart Breaker

Handcuffs aren’t just part of their job...

HEARTBREAKER
Filthy Dirty Love #1
Stacey Kennedy
Releasing Jan 31st, 2017

Handcuffs aren’t just part of their job in this sizzling new standalone novel by USA Today bestselling author, Stacey Kennedy.

Veteran cop, Maddox Hunt, is all about the job. Sure, there are women—lots of women, truth be told—but there’s no one special. Until a one-night stand from his past, rookie Joss O’Neil is assigned to his division. Suddenly, all he can think about is her. The scent of her. The taste of her.

Fresh out of field training, Joss has thrown herself into her job, determined to kick-start her career. And while police work has its thrills, her gorgeous new boss is what really gets her pulse pounding. Too bad he’s nothing but a distraction. Especially since he’s as devastatingly handsome as she remembers, and his sexy smile arrests her heart.

Now that Joss is back in Maddox’s life, he has a plan: satisfy her fantasies and fulfill his every dark desire. Nothing is off limits. Her pleasure is the endgame . . . but even the best-laid plans have a way of falling apart. Despite his best attempts to keep his distance and have things remain only about the pleasure, Maddox soon finds himself breaking the only law he’s set for himself. Don’t fall in love.

Every woman breaking into a man’s world wants to avoid the shadow of doubt created by a relationship to a supervisor. Cops are no different. Joss, daughter of a police officer worked damn hard to be at the top of her class in the police academy. After her boyfriend of six years dumps her, she decides to throw caution to the wind and have a one-night stand.
When she walks into the precinct, fresh out of field training, her lieutenant happens to be her blast from the past. Only neither one of them can let the past rest.
Maddox, abandoned by his mother as a youngster, has grown into a hard man. Devastatingly sexy, dominant, and in lust with one of his new rookies. His rules dictate he never goes back for seconds…
This was an incredible read. Stacey Kennedy has an absolute flare for keeping great tension between Joss and Maddox. This isn’t just a romance, the author gives an insight into things that officers deal with, have to cope with, yet does so in a way that kept me riveted. I love books that delivers surprises, and Ms. Kennedy delivers…in spades. There was plenty of action and real-life scenarios that made this a wonderful read. My only complaint, I want the author to write faster—I want more.
Five stars.

 Review

Wow. I have to start off with – I’m not particularly religious and I believe that even men, and women of the cloth to be human and as such, will never escape human needs. I find it disconcerting that we could hold certain people responsible for denying their humanity.
This book consisted of ten stories, each with a different approach/outlook but following the same theme. All men and women are created equal, after a fashion. Each story was well edited and flowed with a great pace.
To review each one in turn would be to give away key plot points but each author is certainly deserving of notice.
In Genuflect, by Sonni de Soto, the author has a distinctive style of writing that incorporates her main character’s reasoning and feelings into action. I have to admit, this is the first book of its kind that I’ve read. It was wonderful.
In The Undoing by Piper Denna, the author unfolds a story that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I could easily see something similar happening in a real-life situation. There is a real-world feel to her characters.
In Temptation Follows by Torrance Sene, the author throws in a bit of impact play. Wow. She didn’t lose the flavor of the plot, just incorporated it a natural way…Yep, a natural way. I would definitely read this writer’s work again.
In Absolution by Charlotte French, the author brings in a bit of the supernatural, again, like the rest, done in a tasteful, flowing story that kept you enthralled.
In Father What-A-Waste by Bronwyn Green, the air crackled with romance between the two main characters. I couldn’t have put the book down during that story even if I’d wanted to.
In Shelter by Leandra Vane, this story was a hoot. You couldn’t have found two more distinct characters on Earth. But the story worked, and in a wonderful way that brought the characters to life.
In Taking Mary Beth by Mira Stanley, the author takes a ride on the wild side, even considering the subject matter. What wonderful characters she created from a real-life type scenario. Another HEA that you wouldn’t expect.
In Succumb to Temptation by Jordan Monroe, the author captures both the infatuation of a young girl and a new priest. Well done.
In Sin Bin by HK Carlton, the author captures the heartbreak of remembered love and flows into a second-chance with a twist I hadn’t seen coming. I’ve read this author’s work before and again, she certainly doesn’t disappoint, but sets the bar rather high for others.
In Down on My Knees by Jillian Boyd, the story, from a female’s religious perspective, provided an interesting insight. Another story that flowed well from taboo into reality.
Each of the stories detailed the mind’s ability to rationalize and come to grips with the character’s humanity in a way that was well written and made for a wonderful read.
The first time I’ve read a religious, taboo, kind of book. It is well worth picking up and reading.
Five stars

A NOTE TO BOOK REVIEWERS

Amazon has now begun to delete reviews they believe have come from friends and family of the author(s). The problem seems to lie in the wording used by reviewers. Rather than saying you received a free copy in exchange for a review, merely say you received a copy at no cost to the author. It’s the word exchange that Amazon is keeping an eye on as they believe that influences the quality/veracity of review. Saying you received a copy at no cost to the author makes it less likely that Amazon will delete your review. Thanks!
